Department Summary Located within the Generation Engineering and Services department, Project Engineering is responsible for the modifications to existing facilities and new construction for the electric generating and gas compression fleet. Project Engineering works closely with project managers, engineers of other disciplines, plant engineers, plant operations and maintenance personnel, outage managers, construction managers, start up and testing, Architectural & Engineering firms, contracted labor, and vendor representatives to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and on budget. Job Description The Electrical Project Engineering position is located at the JH Campbell Generating Facility in West Olive, MI supporting various projects on the West side of the state of Michigan. The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for the development and design of electrical and/or control systems for a variety of projects. The projects vary across many forms and vintages of electric power generating stations as well as natural gas compressor facilities. This position does not support a continuous process but rather works on projects from start to finish and then begins a new project. As a result the daily, monthly, and yearly routines will be very diverse. This individual will coordinate efforts among staff and ensure that effective communication exists among the various divisions or staffs involved in projects, as well as ensure resource allocation is effective, efficient and sufficient to complete the project. Project engineers use their expertise as an engineer throughout their work, and they may be the customer's technical point of contact as well. Project engineers must have a good understanding of project management, financial management and budgeting, as well as have good communication and teamwork skills. Key Responsibilities include: - Develop and/or review engineering drawings and calculations that detail plans and specifications for construction projects.
- Communicate effectively with a vast group of stakeholders to ensure all electrical technical aspects of the project are completed per the safety, scope, schedule, and budgetary objectives.
- Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions to technical issues identified in the field during project execution and/or initial operation.
- Develop and/or review electrical engineering technical specifications and bid documents for engineered equipment, materials engineering, and construction service contracts.
- Perform field engineering and support the resolution of construction and start up and testing issues.
- Assist project management and project controls with the development of project schedules and budgets.
- Attend and/or lead project coordination meetings.
- Participate in the closeout of projects including turnover of project files and record documents at project closure; captures lessons learned.
