Detroit Defense is seeking a Configuration Manager. This Configuration Manager serves as the primary technical liaison between our development team and clients, maintaining document control and version management for Information Technology (IT) systems related to Portable Electronic Maintenance Aids (PEMA). This is a highly customer-facing role requiring daily client interaction, relationship building, and the ability to navigate both formal and informal communication channels. The Configuration Manager facilitates change control processes, maintains technical documentation, and ensures configuration integrity throughout the development lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Client Relationship Management: Serving as the day-to-day point of contact for clients, building trust and rapport through daily communications, facilitating candid discussions, and translating between technical teams and customer needs.
- Change Management: Implementing change management processes, coordinating change requests with stakeholders, documenting change impacts, and ensuring proper approval workflows are followed.
- Change Control Board (CCB) / Release Review Board (RRB) Facilitation: Planning, coordinating, and leading bi-weekly CCB/RRB meetings, including agenda preparation, stakeholder coordination, action item tracking, and meeting documentation.
- Configuration Management & Document Control: Implementing ISO-based best practices for version control and document management using SharePoint. Establishing and maintaining configuration baselines, managing document versioning, and ensuring controlled access to approved configurations.
- Configuration Item Management: Identifying and tracking configuration items (software modules, documents, system components), maintaining the configuration management system, and ensuring proper version control and traceability.
- Technical Documentation: Assisting with the development and updates of project documentation, including User Guides, Software Design Documents (SDDs) and other technical documentation.
- Configuration Audits & Compliance: Conducting configuration verifications to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established CM practices and program requirements.
- Status Reporting & Communication: Providing regular updates on configuration status, change activities, and document control to both internal teams and external clients in clear, accessible language.
- Ownership & Initiative: Acts with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of assigned tasks and deliverables. Proactively identifies potential issues or dependencies and engages the appropriate internal or client stakeholders to resolve them quickly.
- Must be able to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance if required. The minimum requirement to obtain a Security clearance is United States Citizenship. Applicants that do not meet these requirements will not be considered.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. A Master's degree in a similar field is a plus.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in configuration management, technical writing, customer-facing technical support, project coordination, software development, or related roles. Experience with document control, technical documentation, or facilitating technical meetings is highly valued.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain client relationships. Must be comfortable with daily client interaction, able to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences, and skilled at navigating sensitive conversations professionally.
- A strong desire for logical and consistent organization.
- Experience facilitating meetings and managing stakeholder groups, particularly in change control or review board settings.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience creating user documentation or technical guides.
- Experience with SharePoint for document management and version control (required). Familiarity with Confluence, Jira, Gitlab, or SmartSheet is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to identify inconsistencies or non-conformances.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through on processes and commitments.
- Demonstrated self-efficacy and initiative with a strong sense of ownership. Proactively drives tasks to completion, communicates effectively when encountering blockers, and ensures alignment across internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating complex IT or software development projects.
