Note: This is a progression job that requires documentation of successful completion of all predesignated training in order to qualify for a noncompetitive promotion to the Merchandise Program Specialist (Level II), NF4 (4C). The incumbent may not progress to the next level prior to having served a minimum of 12 months in this position.Job Summary: Merchandise Program Specialist (Level I)
Works closely with applicable Floor Planning Manager in the development and ongoing maintenance of floor plans and merchandising directives utilizing applicable systems including Auto-CAD, JDA, MS SharePoint, MS Excel and other tools as needed. Ensures the proper implementation of merchandising policies programs and procedures for all store operations within the NEXCOM Enterprise. May include travel in the field as a requirement.
Job Summary: Merchandise Program Specialist (Level II)
Works closely with Merchandise Program Sr. Specialists in the development and ongoing maintenance of floor plans, utilizing multitude of tools including AutoCAD and JDA Floor Planning software. Ensures the proper implementation of merchandising policies, programs, and procedures for all convenience/retail store operations within the Navy Exchange System. May include travel in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to the Director of Store Operations - Floor Planning and Merchandising who sets overall goals and direction. Will receive specific project directly from the applicable Floor Planning Manager.
- Works to improve the quality of customers' shopping experience and associates' work environment by driving floor plans and merchandising programs which create a compelling place to shop that meets the desires of the Navy Family by providing the right assortments in the right amount of space at the right location.
- Assists in the development and ongoing maintenance of store floor plans by learning to utilize AutoCAD and JDA Floor Planning programs and working closely with all appropriate stakeholders to ensure optimum use of retail space and compliance with company goals and standards. Provides store data to stakeholders to maintain accurate documents for analysis. Reviews existing floor plans and revise them accordingly to ensure they are current with industry trends.
- Works directly with Code M teams to ensure that all merchandising and layout standards are kept current through updating all Code NH directives, merchandising plans, and standards.
- Partners with Merchandising and Field in the development of floor plans for all project types including initial intake and processing through Code M teams to validate space requirements. Ensures that all completed plans utilize approved flow and fixturing and merchandise content makes maximum use of available space.
- Interacts with all levels of field management to assist with setting goals and expectations with both proposed and approved store projects and merchandising initiatives while ensuring proper protocols are followed.
- Works closely with Director Store Operations Floor Planning and Merchandising to coordinate and schedule individual store support with stores vendors and applicable NEXCOM personnel.
- Works closely with applicable Code M Teams in addressing store concerns including prompt communication of merchandise planogram and vendor issues and provides assistance in ensuring proper assortments for store locations. Works closely with store and corporate stakeholders to ensure quick resolution of any issues.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Incumbents may be placed at the 4B or 4C level depending on their level of expertise with Auto-CAD/JDA floor planning systems, Business Intelligence tool knowledge, and demonstrated ability to influence business results with reporting and business case analysis.
Incumbent may progress non-competitively to a PD#5418 MERCHANDISE PROGRAM SPECIALIST II (Floor Planning & Merchandising) upon the completion of qualification requirements and training within a 3-year time frame; advancement is not permitted with less than 1 year in current position.
Total of 6 years' experience consisting of the following:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience gained in administrative, retail sales, technical, or other responsible work which enabled the applicant to gain knowledge and experience in floor planning, merchandising, and operational practices and procedures: skill in dealing with others in a person-to-person work relationship, strong organizational skills and the ability to exercise mature judgment.
OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for nine months of experience, up to a maximum of a four-year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience which provided an extensive background in retail and/or services merchandising operations management. Knowledge of merchandising techniques and practices; product presentation; maintaining equipment and materials; layout and installation of fixtures; ability to learn and use AutoCAD and JDA software programs in the development of floor plans. Experience in managing project-related work from planning to on-site execution, including the ordering of fixtures and equipment, and merchandising standards.
