Description
OverviewPosition Concept: The Head Golf Professional has the responsibility for the overall management of the golf operations while working cooperatively with other departments.
Supervised By: Troy Grove - General Manager, Golf Committee & Board of Directors
Supervises: Associate Golf Professional, Golf Shop Staff
Specific Responsibilities - include but are not limited to:
Golf Operations Management
- Oversee the reservation system, starting, monitoring play, pace of play, and adherence to USGA Rules and etiquette in addition to the golf rules in the ACC Code of Regulations.
- Track and verify all players and guests, green fees, golf carts, club care, handicap system and fees, other charges necessary, and facilitate accurate accounting and record keeping.
- Oversee golf cart fleet while ensuring proper maintenance and recordkeeping
- The Professional shall be responsible for the leasing of the golf carts owned and/or leased by ACC in collaboration with the General Manager and Board of Directors.
- The Professional shall be responsible for the placement and removal of all golf bags and miscellaneous equipment, scheduling of member leasing of said carts, placing of scorecards, and pencils on said golf carts, filling sand bottles and the removal of debris and trash from said carts
- The Professional shall be responsible for the sand bottle holder on #10 tee, ensuring bottles are filled at all times.
- The Professional shall be responsible for bringing the carts from the storage area to the Golf Shop parking area at the beginning of the day, and return of the golf carts to the storage area at the end of the day.
- The Professional shall be responsible for picking, restocking, functionality and tidiness of the driving range.
- It shall also be the responsibility of the Professional to deliver additional golf carts to properly service play in the event of extra needed.
- Develop and manage tournament programs, group outings and leagues in consultation of the Golf Committee.
- The Professional shall conduct all golf tournaments of the club in conjunction with and in cooperation with the Golf Committee and its duly appointed tournament chairpersons and committees.
- The Professional is required to post all costs and inclusions of each event, and provide a report to the Golf Committee for Board reports on profit and losses.
- In fulfillment of the Professional's obligations hereunder, the Professional shall be responsible for the marking of the golf course for any ground under repair.
- Provide professional club repair and club fitting services
- Ensure the proper storage, safety and cleaning of golf equipment
- Play golf with a variety of members and/or guests as time permits
- Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff. Promote and provide Rules of Golf clinics to the membership.
- Maintain, update and utilize customer database
Retail Management
- Oversee development of buying plans and all golf related purchasing.
- Be attentive and efficient to member requests, friendly and be aggressive with sales.
- Supervise physical inventory, present a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, accessories, and apparel. The nature and extent of said inventory shall be determined by the Professional and the Golf Committee, taking into consideration such factors as the projected sales of the Golf Shop.
- Assist in the development of necessary systems utilizing POS to safeguard inventories and cash
- Establish accurate recordkeeping policies and procedures and coordinate said recordkeeping with the General Manager and business staff.
- Supervise any staff working in the retail side. Employees must be fully trained to ensure proper charges and sales.
- Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the Golf Shop.
- Conduct accurate and timely inventory counts.
Player Development
- Develop, provide, and oversee an enhanced golf instruction program offering individual and group clinics for all levels. Ensure the services of a well-trained staff of instructors as available where required.
- Develop and oversee player development programs
- Provide and schedule lessons for the members and their guests. Post rates, options and availability for lessons on the website and in the Golf Shop.
- Focus on programs for women, families, and juniors.
- Utilize the resources of PGA programs and other club offerings.
- Work with the Golf Committee and Director of Events and Membership to market Player Development
Golf Administration
- Recruit, hire, train, motivate and supervise all golf department staff and maintain labor projections with scheduling to reach annual budget.
- The Professional shall be responsible for seeing the Golf Shop is staffed at all times during operating hours as determined by the Professional and Golf Committee. The Professional and/or Associate shall be present and available at the Golf Shop during most business hours when the Professional deems it necessary based upon club usage.
- The Professional shall do all things necessary and incident to being a golf professional at a private country club, and such additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to him/her from time to time by the General Manager, Golf Committee, and/or Board of Directors. The Professional agrees that he is in accord with and committed to the purposes, doctrines, and requirements of the club and that he/she will loyally support and comply with those standards while employed by ACC.
- Update and maintain Golf Shop policies and procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to and posted in proper areas
- Maintain safety standards within OSHA requirements.
- Assist in the publications of newsletters, flyers and promotional items by providing information to the General Manager or Director of Events and Membership.
- Assist the controller with the administration of the golf handicap system.
- Attend all applicable committee meetings, staff meetings, and attend board meetings as requested.
- Submit board reports five days before the upcoming board meeting to the General Manager.
- The Professional in the performance of his/her obligations hereunder shall consult with and obtain the prior approval from the Golf Committee and General Manager concerning the following items, to with:
- The employment of the Associate Golf Professional, and staff within
- The charge for club storage
- The charge for handicaps
- The charge for carts and guest fees
- Special arrangements for time off to participate in golf tournaments, seminars and vacation.
- The business hours of the Golf Shop and golf cart operation.
- The Professional and his/her staff shall have no right or authority at anytime to make any contract or binding promise of any nature on behalf of ACC, whether written or oral, without the express consent of the Golf Committee and General Manager.
Business & Financial
- Ensure all financial goals and objectives are being achieved
- Assist in the development and preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf operations revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.
- Ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources
- In keeping with facility goals, utilize yield management techniques to maximize course usage
Other Departmental Responsibilities
- Work closely with all department heads to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent to provide golf course playability and tournament setup.
- Responsible for communications to the membership on the playability of the golf course on a daily basis or as needed, with changes due to weather or events.
- Get stimpmeter readings from Superintendent and post on a daily basis at the Golf Shop
- Weekly meetings with the General Manager to review upcoming events, planning and expectations.
- Assist the Membership Committee and Director of Membership in the promotion of new member leads and provide a supporting role in assisting any prospective members experience relating to the golf operations.
- Coordinate plans with the Director of Events for food and beverage needs for all golf events. Team with Director of Events and Membership and meet together with all potential and/or committed golf outings for details.
- The Professional shall, during the term of this agreement, devote his/her entire time and attention to the duties, obligations, and responsibilities set forth herein. The Professional shall promote the interest and welfare of the club and shall not engage in any other business activity during the term of his/her employment.
- The Professional shall not be required to be at the club during the period January 1 st to March 1 st . However, the Professional shall be available to be "on call" by phone or email at such times as the General Manager may reasonably request. This time frame shall also be used to have details, scheduling and planning done for the upcoming year.
Knowledge, Physical Skills & Traits
- Maintain PGA membership in good standing in an active classification.
- Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations.
- Disability: If the Professional becomes disabled during the employment terms hereof, by virtue of sickness, physical or mental disability, or for any other reason, so that he/she is unable to perform proper duties hereunder, this agreement shall be terminated by determination of the Board of Directors, and the club shall not be responsible for any payments, salaries or otherwise, beyond the date of said disabilities as determined by the Board.
- Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.
- Fundamental supervisory practices and principles.
- Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees
