Position Summary
The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia invites applications for multiple open rank, academic year (9-month) tenure-track faculty positions in civil engineering with a focus on smart infrastructure and resilient infrastructure.
These positions will be centered in the College of Engineering's School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering (ECAM) and supervised by the ECAM School Chair. The positions willstart August 1, 2026, and have an academic year appointment with the opportunity to supplement salary during the summer.
These positions are part of a campus-wide presidential hiring initiative that builds on the economic development opportunities that exist within Georgia and the southeast region. The state has an extensive multi-modal transportation network that includes the busiest airport in the world - Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International Airport - an expanding port in Savannah, and a robust interstate highway system that serves as a hub of the region. With the State of Georgia and the federal government investing heavily in infrastructure renewal, the University of Georgia is well-positioned to make significant contributions to the development of sustainable and resilient infrastructure due to the comprehensive nature of the university and its extensive network into communities across the State and region.
The College of Engineering already has significant expertise in basic and translational research that supports programs in resilient infrastructure, smart structures and autonomous construction. Especially noteworthy is the Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems, which has become a global leader in resilience and engineering of integrated conventional and natural infrastructure systems. Faculty hired as part of this initiative will join a rapidly-growing College of Engineering that combines interdisciplinary research and scholarship with excellent instruction and service. The UGA College of Engineering currently enrolls over 4,000 engineering and computing majors across 15 degrees and programs. The College of Engineering is comprised for four interdisciplinary schools: School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural & Mechanical Engineering, School of Chemical, Materials & Biomedical Engineering (CMB), School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), and School of Computing.
Significant investments in infrastructure have resulted in an expansion of laboratory facilities for research and scholarship, and new classrooms and instructional labs. College of Engineering faculty have interdisciplinary research facilities in two major capital projects on campus. Our main instructional facility, Driftmier Engineering Center, has also undergone a complete renovation to create flexible classrooms that enable a range of teaching modalities and the incorporation of interdisciplinary instructional labs. The common instructional facilities also foster a further sense of community by allowing faculty, staff, and students to interact and collaborate in a single facility.
