Summary:
The Trauma Registrar Assistant performs clinical auditing and data abstraction of patient records in support of contracted facility's clinical process improvement and patient safety initiatives. The Assistant collects and submits accurate, complete, and timely data for Trauma Registry.
Responsibilities:
Performs both concurrent and retrospective trauma chart audits to ensure accuracy, in collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager. Maintains clear communication with the Trauma Program Manager regarding any questions, problems, issues, or concerns related to the trauma registry or trauma program
Assists with various trauma program activities as requested, including focused chart audits, data validation, trauma outcomes management, trauma education, and trauma data analysis. Retrieves missing data elements from necessary sources and ensures info entered into the trauma registry database is complete. Responsible for timely and accurate data entry into the program's database.
Abstracts, assembles, enters and codes clinical data into computer databases by using the State recommended scale/codes and the standardized registry criteria as defined by regulatory agencies and quality related organizations.
Participates in performance improvement activities to ensure accuracy of data collection and timely submission of data according to the requirements of the State of Arizona Trauma Registry. Functions as the main point of contact with the Arizona Trauma Data Manager to maintain and improve registry functionality.
Collects pre-arrival and EMS-related data, as well as encounter-related data, including but not limited to trauma presentation details, comorbid conditions, and preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative follow-up information. Utilizes hospital medical record systems effectively to gather and organize the required data. Supports performance improvement and injury prevention needs
Participates in trauma meetings, work groups and educational conferences in order to maintain and expand Trauma Registry knowledge base.
Maintains clear communication with the Trauma Program Manager regarding any questions, problems, issues, or concerns related to the trauma registry or trauma program

Minimum Education and Experience Required:
High School/GED
1 + year of experience
Preferred Education and Experience:
Associate Degree in health-related field. 1 + year of experience involving medical data integrity and analysis is required. Previous Trauma Registry experience is preferred.
