Environmental Scientist IV Bureau of Water Resources Job Summary: This is advanced, independent professional work performing research for technical projects in the environmental field, preparing and reviewing technical publications, and coordinating the design and performance of technical projects between divisions. Job duties may include: - Analyze and review water quality, hydrologic, wetland plant and organism data to evaluate designated use impairments, projects effectiveness, and environmental goals achievement. Design sampling programs to achieve these objectives. Apply statistical or mechanistic models in analysis.
- Prepare findings of relevant data analysis in technical reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, memoranda, or oral presentations for executive management, professional societies, partner agency or government staff, or the public.
- Work in a team setting to receive goals and direction, compare perspectives, discuss findings, outline next steps, provide recommendations, mentor and develop projects. Interact with environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, project managers, interns or initiative leaders. Provide environmental process descriptions for integration into mechanistic water quality modeling efforts.
- Review literature related to specific project issues, methods of analysis, core science, administrative and regulatory directives or enabling legislation.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science or related field and six years professional experience in the environmental field. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, limnology, botany, environmental science or related field can substitute for one year of the experience described above. A doctorate from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, limnology, botany, environmental science or related field can substitute for two years of the experience described above. Professional experience in environmental protection or research can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
