About the role
We are looking for a Geologist QAQC and Sampling for the designing, implementation and supervision of core sampling procedures, design and implementation of analytical procedures used internally and by external labs, monitoring the performance of internal and external analytical work, managing the database of analytical results, and interacting with metallurgical, geotechnical and mining engineering teams to assure appropriate sampling programs are implemented and completed effectively.
This role is a critical component of the Project Studies and, as required, includes support to mining engineering work programs, metallurgical studies, and geotechnical characterization. Reporting to the Chief Geologist, you will be:
Developing and documenting sampling program for assay, geochemical, density and metallurgy. Act as supervisor of geotechnicians conducting sampling activities.
Solely responsible to develop, document and execute a best practice data QA/QC program to assure accuracy and precision of results from assay, geochemical, mineralogy and density analytical programs.
Defining the appropriate analytical procedures needed to assure analytical results of appropriate accuracy and precision are generated from the sampling programs.
Act as primary point of contact with external laboratories to communicate upcoming sample volumes and shipment details, we well as issues arising with analytical quality or turnaround time.
Working with recognized experts in the field, supervise the construction and certification of matrix-matched standards of appropriate grade to be used for establishing accuracy of analytical results from assay and geochemical analyses.
Import sample and QAQC data into the acQuire database, conduct analyses of quality, and resolve these quality issues with analytical labs. Also responsible for permanent storage of other digital files and hard-copy, assay certificates.
In cooperation with the Chief Geologist and Metallurgy, responsible for defining composite intervals for use in geochemical analysis, and mineralogical and metallurgical studies.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
BS Geology, Chemistry, or related field is essential as a foundation for sample planning and data quality control.
3+ years of demonstrated experience in geology related field.
A strong interest in geochemistry and mineralogy is desirable.
A conscientious and detail-oriented approach to work is essential in order to assure high quality analytical data is generated and reliably entered into the database.
Excellent practical communications skills required to effectively implement the geological processes with operational staff.
Excellent technical communication skills, both written and verbal
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Experience with acQuire software for analytical data management.
Experience with MS Access and strong skills in Excel.
Training in sampling methodology, analytical data quality control, and geostatistics.

As part of Rio Tinto’s Copper product group; Copper Projects manages the planning, development and technological aspects of major global copper projects. The group collaborates with the Rio Tinto Technology and Innovation group to focus on applications of innovative technologies including block caving, automation, flash converter smelting and sulphide leaching. With exploration indicating one of the largest copper resources ever found in North America, and possibly worldwide; the Resolution Project stands to be a premier copper mine. Located three miles east of Superior, Arizona, the copper ore will be mined using panel caving - a subset of block caving.
