The Transportation Safety Engineer will be responsible for the systemic safety planning and program development and implementation for the County Roads. This includes roads, intersections, lighting, speed management, safe routes to school, pedestrians, bikes, crash data analysis, complete streets, access management, congestion management, public education, and design plan reviews. Budgets may be developed from multiple funding sources and investigations and applying for available grant funding sources. Close coordination and representation will be required with management, other agencies, committees, staff and consultants. Performs licensed professional engineering work as the team lead at the supervisory level involving the planning, program development, project scoping, plans review, consultant management, and personnel management.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The Hillsborough County Public Works Administration is seeking a proactive, seasoned Professional Engineer to lead the transportation system safety program which includes the ability to perform safety studies and develop programs to decrease the number and frequency of crashes and fatalities and serious injuries. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in public road safety analysis and planning, international programs for road safety, new and innovative programs, complete streets, traffic and road engineering, and program and project development, working with stakeholders, and public outreach. The candidate will need strong communication and leadership abilities and be effectively in working with others to achieve agreeable solutions to issues.
Registration in the State of Florida as a Professional Engineer (active status) in the applicable discipline as required by the Florida Statutes Chapter 471; AND
An applicant who holds a valid license to practice engineering in another state or territory of the United States, must meet current requirements to be licensed in the state of Florida as a professional engineer, and obtain the license within 6 months of employment.)
Six years of post-registration experience as a Professional Engineer in the applicable discipline.
